FIRST LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

The acquisition of first language is a natural process. Child acquire language through interaction with others. They go through some stages when they acquire a language.
First stage is babbling stage. Babbling sounds are language like sounds. They mostly consist of consonant-vowel sequences like ba, da and ma.
The second stage is one-word stage. At this stage, one word can be used to communicate to whole idea. For example, cookie means ; I want to eat cookie.
Overextention: When the child takes the name of  a person or object and names all the things that look similar to it.
Underextention: Children often use words with more restricted meanings rather than the word has in adult usage.
The third stage is two-word stage. These two word utterances are usually in the form of noun-noun or noun-verb. Function words such as articles, prepositions, and grammatical endings are remarkably lacking.
